We source, advise, create and sell surfaces (finishes) and materials for every conceivable surface both inside and outside the building.
So feel free to register if you are a professional and access the wonders on our material database or look at the Interior Design Collections we have put together or simply pick up the phone to us.
SCIN was created by designers Annabelle Filer and Graham Cox, both of whom trained as Architects. The material insight they gained through their experience in Design lead them to focus purely on material research. Four years ago they decided to share their material information and SCIN was launched.
As a result SCIN is rapidly gaining a reputation as the UK sourcing and advisory company for materials. Annabelle Filer is a regular monthly contributor to FX Design and Grand Designs Magazines bringing materials to the readers and has judged a number of surface design awards. She advises and designs new surfaces and along with other SCIN colleagues lectures to Schools of Architecture and Design, Architects and Designers.
SCIN were themselves finalists in Surface Design Award 2005 and have published five Interior Design Toolkits, based upon a collection of materials, (see collections) including collaborations with Elle Decoration and House of Fraser.
We love materials.
We work with a community of material experts and source materials from all over the world - using institutions, publications, fellow material researchers, manufacturers websites and blogs and visiting trade shows and events. Our world of materials moves from NASA developments - plastic metal, to PHD Students - printing on water, to wood material websites - Russian birch bark wallpaper and finally the talented individual creating the extraordinary such as urethane ‘soft gem' panels. We then simply bring the materials and developments to you.
We fundamentally believe that environmental or sustainable design heralds a new era in architecture and design and one that has not been so exciting since the introduction of concrete. Materials will play a huge part in it given that not only is the source important but technology is developing materials as carbon sinks similar to the earth. We at SCIN, work hard to find the latest environmentally friendly materials and today, one of our real objectivesfor the UK market is the introduction of indigenous materials. (See Green SCIN)
SCIN's offer is simple: To find you the materials that you are looking for and then help you, if necessary, design with them. SCIN is a trigger for innovative, practical and green design using materials as part of the key to differentiate you from others.
We believe we are inspiring, addictive and hugely useful. We save you time and give you materials that you have not even dreamt of... and we sell them too.
